Bullfighting

Bullfighting is certainly one of the best known, although at the same time one of the most controversial Spanish customs. This Fiesta would not exist without the Toro Bravo, a species of bull of an archaically race that is only found in Spain The Bible reports on sacrifices of bulls in honour to the divine justice. Also in the religious ceremonies of Iberian tribes living in Spain in prehistorically time bulls played an important part. The origins of the Plaza, bullring, probably are not the Roman amphitheatres but the Celt-Iberian temples where those ceremonies were held. In the province of Soria, close to Numancia, one of them is conserved and it is supposed that their bulls were sacrificed to the Gods. While the religious cults of the bull goes back to Iberians, it was the Greek and Roman influences that converted it into a spectacle.

Crocodile Park

The Crocodile Park newly opened in Torremolinos, is one of Spain's most fascinating attractions. Africa.

Flamenco

Flamenco is a Spanish art form with its roots deep in Andalucia, Spain’s southern region. Even the origin of its name is elusive. Some attribute it to the early 1500s and the Flemish courtiers during the reign of Spain’s Charles V. Still others claim the name comes from the Arabic Fellahmangu – the labourer who sings. Flamenco combines acoustic guitar playing, singing, chanting, dancing and staccato handclapping. The flamenco dancer performs with passion, fervour, even tortured expressions but always striving for grace and dignity There are more than a dozen varieties of flamenco songs. Many are laments. One classic type the Petenera tells the story of a beautiful girl named Petenera who brings tragedy to herself and her village. Unfortunately, much flamenco today is staged for the tourists and just doesn’t cut it. There are more than a dozen varieties of flamenco songs. Many are laments. One classic type, the Petenera, tells the story of a beautiful girl named Petenera who brings tragedy to herself and her village.

Gibraltar Rock

Gibraltar is Famous Worldwide for its Dramatic Rock. It is located in a strategic position at the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula. It overlooks the Straits of Gibraltar and is linked to Spain. Gibraltar is imposing but small. It measures less than six square kilometres in total and is inhabited by around 30,000 people made up of Gibraltarians, British, Moroccans, Indians and Spanish. There is also a colony of the famous apes, the only ones in Europe to run free in a semi-wild state. Gibraltar is a British self-governing colony. It has a Governor who is the Queen's representative on the Rock and Commander-in Chief of the British Forces stationed there. Britain is responsible for Gibraltar's foreign affairs, defence and the political stability of the colony.  However, the Rock has its own Chief Minister plus a House of Assembly and a government, which oversees the day-to-day affairs of the Rock. Gibraltar is a member of the European Union by virtue of Britain's membership. However, Gibraltar is outside the Customs Union so travellers from EU member states can still enjoy duty free purchases now banned to travellers within the EU.

   Baviera Golf

                                                                  Golf clubs

Situated in the foothills of the Sierra de la Almijara mountain range, in a valley with an ideal microclimate for a game of golf. The course has 18 holes.

The main feature of the first 9 holes is the fairly even terrain, where water comes into play on 4 holes and makes the 4th hole especially complicated. On the next 9 holes water intervenes mainly on the 10th and 17th.

At Baviera Golf the par-3s and par-5s deserve a special mention due to their level of difficulty.

Not only did the pro José María Cañizares design the course but he still offers his services on a consultancy basis.

All of the fairways are carpeted with Bermuda grass for maximum enjoyment of the round.

The areas sown with Penncross and the bunkers filled with fine white sand contrast starkly with the deep green of the fairways.

Malaga

Malaga is the major coastal city of Andalucia and is a genuine and typical Andaluz city.  During the nineteenth century, Malaga was a popular winter resort for the wealthy. The impressive park on Calle Alamenda dates back to this era and is recognized as being one of the most celebrated botanical collections in Europe. During the winter open air concerts are held here every Sunday, which makes a refreshing change from the bucket and spade scenario you get on the coast!

One of the Malaga famous sons was Pablo Picasso. You will find many Museums in Malaga showing his work. His birthplace in Plaza Merced is open to the public so you can view his work, and it is free. As well as being a cultural centre, Malaga is also a great place to eat out. Why not try one of the famous tapas bars in the centre? The oldest tapas bar in Malaga is called "Antigua Casa de la Guardia". These days, Malaga prides itself on being a modern city. There are also plenty of fashionable shops on hand!

The museum, funded by the Junta de Andalucia with the support of heirs of the Andalucian artist, is the fulfilment of a lifelong dream of the artist. A fact recently confirmed by his daughter-in-law, Christine and his grandson, Bernard, the principal driving forces behind the project, who explained that for them it is the result "of the people of Malaga's passion for the artist". In gratification for these feelings, both decided to donate or hand over part of their collections to the art gallery. Christine and Bernard Picasso have placed 204 pieces of work from their private collections at the disposal of the Picasso Museum in Malaga. According to Carmen Gimenez, the museum director, these are pieces that cover "all the creative periods of the artist's work", and include creations from his youth to those which he signed at the end of his life.
